Hello, and welcome to my webpage!
My name is Heeyoung, and I’m thrilled to have you here. I am a certified Korean language teacher based in Luxembourg. Over the last two decades, I have lived with my family across multiple countries and geographies in Europe and Asia, respectively.
Until July 2025, I taught at the King Sejong Institute Luxembourg. I decided to step back from that role at an important stage in my children’s lives so that I can focus more on supporting them. At the same time, I am now concentrating on organizing and sharing what I have learned from three years of teaching Korean at the King Sejong Institute.
Passion and dream through education
During my school journey, I studied subjects such as geography, sociology, English and fashion design from various universities and I was trained to be a teacher of those subjects. In addition to the bachelor degrees, I have teaching certificates of these subjects and became a high school teacher. As I raised my children in a multilingual and multicultural environments, I grew to value the importance of preserving their mother tongues and cultural heritage. To better educate them, I undertook the challenge of learning how to teach Korean as a foreign language. To that end, I also earned a Master’s degree focusing on international education through research. I followed my interest but was always connected with education because I am willing to share my knowledge with people who need them.
I served as the director of the Korean School of Luxembourg (KSL) from 2018 to 2020, preceding the establishment of the King Sejong Institute Luxembourg in 2022. At KSL, alongside my directorial responsibilities, I managed the school curriculum, catering to both Korean children preserving their culture and non-Korean students eager to learn Korean and understand cultural heritage.
The academic and career journey mentioned above has not only enhanced my expertise in educational methodologies and classroom management but also deepened my understanding of the motivations, needs, and passions of non-Korean learners.
Lal_la Korean
The name “Lal_la Korean” is inspired by the joyful sound of singing in Korean, “랄라.” I chose this name because I believe that learning a language should be as delightful and melodious as singing your favorite song. Learning a language involves understanding the way of thinking, history, and culture of the people reflected in that language, beyond merely conveying thoughts and communicating mechanically.
Now, I am launching this website to share the knowledge and experience I have accumulated over the years of teaching students. My goal is to make your journey into the Korean language enjoyable, engaging, and effective.
In this website, you’ll find a variety of resources, from beginner tips and grammar explanations to cultural insights. Whether you’re just starting or looking to refine your skills, there’s something here for everyone.
I hope your journey of learning Korean with me will be as delightful as singing “Lal-la.” If you have any questions or just want to say hello, feel free to reach out. Happy learning!
Warm regards,
Heeyoung
